Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine

Discoveries in the biomedical sciences and innovations in clinical medicine have led to significant victories in our longstanding war against illness and suffering. With the mapping of the entire human genome, we are now closer to the understanding of the mechanisms of life, aging, illness and death, opening up exciting new opportunities for advances in therapeutics. Novel insights in the life science and technological advances in medicine will result in better health and an improved quality of life for the human race in the new century.

In cases where only one nominee may be nominated from an institution, the Dean's office may form an ad hoc committee to identify candidates.

Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for Medicine

In 1989, the Alfred Heineken Fondsen Foundation established a biennial prize to be awarded to a pioneering medical researcher. The prize is also funded by the Foundation.

Passano Award

The Passano Foundation, established in 1945, provides an annual award of (USD) $50,000. The recognition honors U.S.-based research that leads to real-world applications in clinical medicine.

These international awards include categories in the Basic Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), Biomedicine, and Biology.

Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research: to the individual, institution or group of individuals or institutions whose findings, inventions and/or research studies in the fields of Mathematics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences or Technological Sciences, including the disciplines corresponding to each of these fields and their associated techniques, represent a significant contribution to the progress and welfare of Mankind

Indiana University SOM Steven C Beering Award

The Indiana University School of Medicine Steven C. Beering Award honors an internationally recognized individual for outstanding research contributions to the  advancement of biomedical or clinical science.  The award, a tribute to a former dean, is presented annually and consists of a prize of $25,000.  The recipient is  asked to present one major lecture to the medical community at the time the award is bestowed and to spend about three days with us, including delivering one or  two additional lectures to smaller groups.

Clinical Research Forum Top 10 Clinical Research Achievements Award

Recognizing the need to celebrate our nation's accomplishments that involve both innovation and impact upon human disease, the Clinical Research Forum has established a national competition to determine ten outstanding Clinical Research Accomplishments in the United States annually.Types of projects included Patient-oriented (mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials,development of new technologies), epidemiological, behavioral, outcomes, health services and human physiology research projects.
