Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research

The Albany Medical Center Prize has been created to provide national and international recognition to a physician, biomedical scientist, or group of physicians or scientists, who have made extraordinary and sustained leadership contributions to improving healthcare and patient care; or who have successfully pursued innovative biomedical research with demonstrated translational benefits applied to improved patient care.

Prize Amount: 
$500,000

AMA Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine

The Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine recognizes physicians whose influence reach the international patient population and change the future of their medical care. By treating, educating and counseling patients beyond the U.S. border, the physician’s work is having a positive impact on health care in the global arena.

Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine

Discoveries in the biomedical sciences and innovations in clinical medicine have led to significant victories in our longstanding war against illness and suffering. With the mapping of the entire human genome, we are now closer to the understanding of the mechanisms of life, aging, illness and death, opening up exciting new opportunities for advances in therapeutics. Novel insights in the life science and technological advances in medicine will result in better health and an improved quality of life for the human race in the new century.

Prize Amount: 
$1,000,000

In cases where only one nominee may be nominated from an institution, the Dean's office may form an ad hoc committee to identify candidates.

Ho-Am Prize - Science

The Ho-Am Prize in Medicine is presented to individuals who, through outstanding accomplishments in basic, clinical and pharmaceutical areas of medicine, are leading the way in mankind's quest to conquer disease. The Ho-Am Prize in Science is presented to individuals who are leaders with have creative, outstanding research accomplishments in their respective basic sciences fields and who contribute to the advancement of civilization through such.

Lemelson MIT Prize

The $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize recognizes individuals who translate their ideas into inventions and innovations that improve the world in which we live. Nominees are eligible within twenty-five years of receiving their Bachelor Degrees

Marion Spencer Fay Award

This national award, now in its 48th year, is given annually to an outstanding woman physician and/or scientist who has made an exceptionally significant contribution to health care as a practitioner, medical educator, administrator and/or research scientist and who exhibits significant future potential.

AACR Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Memorial Award

AACR and the Rosenthal Family Foundation established this award in 1977 to recognize research that has made, or promises to soon make, a notable contribution to improved clinical care in the field of cancer. In its desire to honor and provide incentive to investigators relatively early in their careers, the foundation has stipulated that recipients not be more than 50 years of age at the time the award is received.

AACR-Women in Cancer Research Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship

The lecture is intended to give recognition to an outstanding female or male scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of women in science.

This award was established in 1996 to recognize outstanding achievements in clinical cancer research.
