Albert B. Sabin Gold Medal Award

The Albert B. Sabin Gold Medal Award has been awarded annually since 1994 and is given to a distinguished member of the research community who has made extraordinary contributions in the field of vaccinology or a complementary field. Each recipient is a role model for young researchers, someone whose career has saved lives through the development and use of vaccines. The Medal is the highest scientific honor given by the Sabin Vaccine Institute and commemorates the legacy of the late Dr. Albert B. Sabin. This prestigious award is presented by the Sabin Vaccine Institute (Sabin) as part of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) annual conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The Gold Medal Award, commemorating the legacy of the late Dr. Albert B. Sabin, is awarded based on the following criteria: The Nominee has had a major impact in vaccine research and development or has materially improved the access of vaccines to neglected and at-risk populations. The Nominee has left an indelible imprint toward the improvement of public health. The Nominee’s work exemplifies the Sabin Vaccine Institute’s mission to reduce needless human suffering from vaccine preventable and neglected tropical diseases. The Nominee should be a scientist, medical researcher or public health advocate - not a philanthropist. The Nominee(s) may be either an individual or a small team.
